That pork steak and fries at 27 CHF really brought the poor value into focus. I could get the pork for £0.90 at Asda in the UK, so the rest felt like paying 26 CHF just to eat it in someone else's parlour. My wife's freshwater trout was nice for her, eye included, though she only found one eye! The tomato soup was lovely too, just expensive. It was adequate, but nothing to write home about. Visitors are basically held over a barrel if they want to eat out in Switzerland. Bring pot noodles and eat them at the hotel.

The staff were really friendly, and the food was good. We had the bratwurst with rösti during our night in Wilderswil, while others in our party got the schnitzel and enjoyed it too.

The meal itself was delicious, and the building is beautiful with a nice atmosphere. But the service left a lot to be desired. We were ordering a normal amount, an appetizer to share, individual entrees and a couple of drinks, yet they aggressively tried to sell us much more: soup, salad, appetizers for each person, beer or wine, and dessert. We didn't need all that, and it would have gone to waste. They even recommended a cheap frozen dessert meant for children to the adults, apparently to sell the €5 cup it came in. At the end, the waiter asked us for a tip. I understand it's a business that needs to make a profit, but we felt treated like tourists to squeeze for whatever they could, not guests deserving dignity. I wouldn't return or recommend it to anyone traveling in the region.
