The setting alone was lovely, with farms and snowcapped peaks all around, halfway up the mountain. I came just for the restaurant and really enjoyed the meal. I had asparagus soup followed by a duet of venison and elk, and both were fantastic. They also serve mountain game such as deer, elk, and trout. I’d love to return.
Doris looked after us at dinner on New Year’s Eve and made the evening feel special. She offered suggestions, genuinely cared about the guests, and even sang a traditional Swiss song. The owners were lovely and involved in running the place. I also appreciated that they provided a bed and bowls for my dogs, something hotels often charge for without providing anything in return. We had a wonderful time and will definitely come back. I don’t think I’ve had a better hotel experience.
We booked this place for our elopement and couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The staff answered our questions and suggested local vendors. They’d also decorated our room without us asking, which was a sweet touch. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and clean, with beautiful views in a setting that feels like a fairytale. The spa is coed, so keep that in mind. We loved the restaurant’s fresh dishes made with local ingredients. There are ski lifts, charming towns, and lots of alpine waterfalls nearby.
Getting here would have been a really long trip without a car. That was my only issue with the location.
I used to come here often in winter, but after this visit I’d rather go somewhere else with family and friends. David, our waiter, was very friendly and eventually helped sort out the cigarette purchase, but the service overall was disappointing. We waited 20 minutes after sitting down to be served, even though I counted 23 seated customers and four waiters. When I asked the tall man at the bar about buying a packet of cigarettes for my wife, since we had no cash, he said, “That’s not my problem.” He may have been right that it wasn’t his responsibility, but the restaurant’s vending machine wasn’t available to customers either. David helped after I explained what I needed. After we paid, I was leaving the table when one of the terrace umbrellas hit my head. Two or three servers came over to clear the table, and none checked on me or even looked at my face. I did enjoy my wild burger, but there are other places to eat nearby, so I can’t recommend this one based on the service. Management later replied with what felt like excuses. They got the cigarette situation wrong, saying it was my wife who had the issue, and their account of the umbrella incident was a complete joke. They claimed they offered me a cooling pack, but I heard nothing about one and had a headache for the rest of the afternoon. Before responding, they should have checked what actually happened.
