Matthiol made it easy to get out and explore: trails start right at the hotel, while transit takes you into town in a few stops. It’s away from the bustle but still convenient. The Matterhorn views were amazing, and the room was spectacular, with the in-room sauna as a highlight. We also loved the spa. The service and location were incredible, and everyone was great. I highly recommend it and hope to return.

The hotel has a lovely amount of alpine Swiss character, without feeling kitschy, and the rooms were clean and very nice. Service and breakfast were fantastic. Skiing and the hiking trails up Gornegrat are close by. It’s a bit farther from town, but there’s a shuttle. I loved staying here and will definitely visit again.

We were completely awestruck when we arrived in May. I’d booked three months earlier because the hotel looked quiet and tucked away, with breathtaking Matterhorn views. I hadn’t even known it had won the Michelin Key award. It felt luxurious without being pretentious, and we had a perfect stay. This was our honeymoon and the final stop on an 11-day, three-destination Swiss holiday. Part of me wishes we’d spent all 11 days in Zermatt at The Hotel Matthiol. We’ll be back soon. Our room was immaculate and well appointed, with a beautiful view of the Matterhorn, an in-room sauna and steam room, and a soaking tub. Breakfast was generous, with hot dishes as well as a huge buffet drawing on many cuisines, and it fuelled a big day of hiking. The hotel also arranged transport from the train station. Rivca showed us around and knew the hotel and town inside out. She took plenty of time to answer my questions about excursions and transport. On the first day, I discovered a serious problem with my booking and brought it to Mareike in a panic. She quickly sorted it out calmly and patiently, and I’m very grateful for her tact. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, impressive food and a perfect location.

The setting is lovely, with a great view of the Matterhorn 🏔️, and the hotel has a gym and private spa facilities in the rooms. The breakfast was delicious and the waitstaff gave excellent service. My only issue was that the in-room sauna didn’t get hot enough because air was leaking out. Apart from that, everything was pretty much perfect, and it was a very solid stay.

Everyone made us feel welcome, and the food was fresh, delicious, and high quality. Our room was spacious, clean, and new, and room service was quick. We had an incredible stay and I'd highly recommend the hotel.
