We could give this negative stars if that were possible. Do not stay here. We arrived at Kuru club on 11.09.2023 and left the same day. We arrived in Aitutaki on 11.09.2023 and departed on 13.09.2023. The rooms were damp, dirty and falling apart, and in places the roof was literally blowing off. I wouldn't let my dog sleep there. The manager's service was really poor, although Abel, the groundskeeper, was awesome and took pride in keeping the outdoor area clean. It's near the airport but a long way from town and everything else on the island. The facilities were poor. The communal kitchen is an outdoor shed or shack with minimal cooking facilities and shared fridges. There's no reception or activities desk, just a pool, nice gardens, the lagoon and the room. There's no food or restaurant, so you have to go into town to buy all your own food. This is worse than a backpackers or campground. We were picked up at the airport and driven to Kuru Club to settle in, but the place was a shambles. Since we were only on Aitutaki for three days, we looked around to see if we could make do. After seeing how poor everything was, we took a taxi to town to find other accommodation. We found somewhere else and came back to Kuru Club, but the manager didn't answer our calls. We waited for a few hours, with nobody else onsite to help. We couldn't tell anyone we were unhappy or checking out, so we left the key in the room and went. Aitutaki is such a beautiful island, so it's really sad when hotels like this purposefully mislead customers. This place should be shut down. The photos on the website were taken when it first opened, and the hotel looks NOTHING like them. If you stay here, you'll need pre-booked transport, filtered or bottled water, a strong immune system to put up with the dampness, and a strong reserve to deal with crabs crawling into your room.

We paid for two nights but left after one and stayed somewhere else. The place was a big disappointment on arrival, very run down and nothing like the listing. It needs a complete overhaul inside and out, though we stayed in November 22 and it sounds as if some renovations have happened since. The listing mentioned a private boat, electric bikes and snorkelling gear, but none of those were there. The lagoon next door is a big plus, but with all that land, the bedrooms seemed to face the wrong way.

The room itself was clean, modern, air conditioned and just as described. Ours adjoined another room, though, and the frosted glass sliding door between the suites didn't block much sound. Light from the other suite also came into ours at night. Other details on the website weren't accurate. WiFi wasn't free, and there was no fleet of electric vehicles, snorkels, paddle boards or kayaks for guests. On three of our five nights, other guests partied on their patio and played loud music until early morning. Maybe these are still kinks in a new hotel, but I'd check on the amenities first if they matter to you.

Helen was outstanding. She met us at the airport with beautiful Leis, then spent another hour helping when our hired car wasn't there. She drove us into town to sort it out and took us to pick up dinner. That's a perfect example of Cook Islands hospitality. The rooms were modern and fine for the one night we stayed.

Kuru cancelled our booking six months after we made it, emailing us four weeks before arrival to say renovations were the reason. They offered no alternative. Kuru and its management were unprofessional in every area. We tried lots of places, but most were booked because of conferences. Cook Island Tourism were fantastic and eventually found us accommodation after trying many places.
