I loved falling asleep to the sound of the sea, and the view from my room was great. Super Browns is about a 10 minute walk away. The rooms could use an update.

The staff were friendly and ready to help whenever I had a request, and the nearby 24-hour store was really convenient. Town and Mari Beach are a bit further away. I stayed three nights for a wedding on the island, and choosing a beachfront room was perfect. Waking up to the ocean view gave me a peaceful place to unwind, and I even spotted a couple of whales passing by. The room was spotless when I arrived, cleaned daily, and kept in good shape. The fridge kept my drinks and snacks cold, and the bed was very comfortable. I had a fantastic stay and would happily choose this place again.

This is a great affordable option for a family on a budget. The place is old school and a bit tired, but very clean, and the price reflects that. Our child loved watching the chickens out the back door in the rain. We were actually booked a month early because I got the dates wrong, lol. After an 18-hour trip with our 4-year-old, in pouring rain, we were exhausted and panicked. The hosts quickly helped cancel the incorrect booking and checked us in without fuss, and even had us giggling by the end. Thank you so much! I was surprised by the low ratings, so wanted to clarify a few things. We had hot water and didn't see any insects, though I have lived on this island and ants and cockroaches are pretty standard. Paying for drinking water is common in budget accommodation unless there's a UV-treated system, so bring drink bottles to the island and use the refill stations. Power is expensive here, and in places where electricity costs a lot, rooms often have a key that cuts it when you leave. Here, you turn it off at the wall switches.

Breakfast by the pool, cooked by Francesca, was a delightful part of our stay, and in the beautiful weather the swimming pool was a lifesaver. My wife, our friends, and I have just returned to NZ after six nights in rooms 15-16. We didn't have a white sand beach or fancy restaurants, but the complex was completely adequate for our needs. The rooms were dated and need an overhaul, though they were clean and serviced daily. The staff were delightful and very knowledgeable. Would I stay again? Most definitely.
