Tia Maria Retreat

You get your own little stretch of beach here, and the view to wake up to every morning is enviable. Our room was cleaned daily, and check-in and check-out were easy thanks to the staff. There were no hidden extra charges. It's close to town, with a 24/7 grocery shop across the road and the best burgers next door. A good spot if you'd rather avoid resort prices and enjoy exploring. Would recommend staying here!

The beach is rocky and not really for swimming, but it was lovely to take a lounge chair into the shade and read while listening to the breakers on the reef. We weren't beachfront, but the room worked well for us because it was the most accessible option, and we both walk with canes. We booked with the KiiKii Inn, which placed us here, and the team couldn't have been nicer or more attentive. There was a mix-up with the number of beds on the first night. We arrived close to 1am and made a bed on the floor from couch cushions. After we told reception down the road at the Kiikii, they sorted it out with an extra single bed within 15 minutes. The Wi-Fi was great and free, Super Brown's for food and bits is a five-minute walk, and the cleaner came by every day. No extra charges. The kettle, toaster, hob and microwave were spotless and worked well. A good basic place to stay, would definitely recommend.

It's a whole apartment with two bedrooms and a full kitchen, right on the coast, though the shoreline is stony and rocky. If you're lucky, you might spot whales from here. You can take the local bus from the very small airport, just tell the driver where you're going and he'll probably drop you right at the location. The bus goes around the island, but doesn't run very late; hitchhiking is another option. There was no Wi-Fi during our stay. There's no reception either, so you have to check in at another hotel down the road, which wasn't very convenient.

This is my new go-to spot in Raro. Loved it, and I’ll definitely be back.
