Before getting to Calama, several people separately warned us that there was a lot of crime and that the city was dangerous, with drug issues and unemployment outside the mining sector. The hotel felt like a safe place to us, and we were glad to have dinner and breakfast in the spacious canteen before heading to Uyuni. The hotel is right in the center, looks brand new, and has well-equipped rooms. Even the heating is built into something that looks like a picture, which was impressive. The food was good and there was plenty of variety. Amazing value for money. Thanks for having us.

I wouldn’t stay here again. The room and bathroom were both quite small, and the location didn’t feel great, with lots of interesting people around. I booked through booking.com and tried to change the booking, but things went wrong from then on. I contacted them a couple of times and never got a reply. They charged different prices depending on whether a foreign guest had a PDI slip. I understand hotels can do that in Chile, but this was the only one we encountered during our three weeks there. Dinner was offered for $15, but it wasn’t worth it, with barely any vegetarian choices. Breakfast was included, but it was just so-so.

For about $40 USD a night, this is a good economical option with an Ibis Budget feel. There’s a great downstairs area with big tables for working, the wifi worked fine, and the rooms have both a fan and heating. The location is lively and close to shops and supermarkets, though it’s a little sketch. Parking is easy inside a gated, safe area. There’s also a good motorcycle shop a few blocks away.

When I arrived, they still made me dinner even though the kitchen had closed. They also gave me a European power adapter for free after mine broke.
