Breakfast is a treat, and the service feels like a reflection of Chilote hospitality: honest and good. I especially loved the huge room beneath the roof and the stunning views over the tidal water. One of my favorite hotels in town, with wonderfully atmospheric palafito vibes.

The warm croissants with local honey were so good, and the granola was just subtly sweet, which worked perfectly with plain yogurt. I usually find granola too sugary. I came for breakfast even though I wasn’t staying at the hotel, and the beautifully designed space has big windows and a patio facing the water. I also tried chai for the first time in Chile and enjoyed it. It wasn’t sweet; I usually prefer more spice, but this was quite alright. They had alternative milk options, too. The bathrooms were exceptionally clean and nicely designed.

The café is a beautiful, cozy spot with good coffee and a nice view. Service was another story: the waitress seemed completely uninterested. Go for the setting, but don’t count on great service.

By the waterfront, this is a nice café. It’s the only place I’ve come across that makes proper yerba mate, and that alone earns it five stars from me.
