Hostal Umantun

We still remember the warm welcome and the personal attention. The setting was lovely, and the hospitality and service were exceptional. Our stay was memorable and better than we expected. We're very grateful for the care and quality of service.

We were on our way to Castro when we chose to spend a night in Dalcahue, and finding Umantun hostel turned out to be a great choice. It's right in the city center, just steps from the sea. The only room available had new furniture and linens and was very well equipped. Both owners were excellent hosts and happy to help with anything we needed. Breakfast was plentiful and had plenty of variety. Highly recommend.

We'd stayed one night here during the summer and had a good experience, so this time we arrived without booking through an app. That visit was terrible. At 9:30 pm, after we'd settled in, I went to pay for a room for my wife and me and was told the quoted price was per person, plus VAT. We felt cheated. We believe this way of charging per person may be aimed at foreigners. In Chile, we've never been charged per person at a hostel, hotel, or cabin; normally the room is charged as a whole, which you can check on any booking site. The person helping us treated us terribly, and the conversation turned into shouting and insults. We left for another hotel that was ten times better and half the price they wanted. The room also had no toiletries like shampoo or a hairdryer. If you don't have a reservation with confirmed prices, be careful, especially if you're a foreigner. In Chile, you're charged by the room, never by the person.

Mauricio was attentive and helpful throughout our lovely stay. He even lent us his car so we could get around. The place itself is beautiful, with lovely decor and a peaceful setting close to the main square. The curtains weren't blackout, but he brought us darker ones. Breakfast had a good variety, though I'd add oats to the yogurt. I'd also remove the carpets in future, since I have severe allergies, but carpets are pretty common in the south.
