Cabañas Aorangi

The kitchen was roomy and had everything we needed, and the place was comfortable and clean. It’s also close to the center. I’d happily come back, though I did miss having bedside lamps.

The shared areas were the worst part. The stove, fridge, and kettle were there, but there were no usable pots, knives, or cutting boards, and things looked dirty or moldy. The common areas weren’t cleaned during my four nights, which was appalling. I can accept that a few small insects may turn up on an island, but I killed three cockroaches during my stay. I had a room with two single beds and a private bathroom. It was big enough for two, but the old, basic furniture was worn, and the room hadn’t been cleaned well. There was a musty smell. Bring your own towels, since none are provided, not even small hand towels. The shower setup was basic, with a wet and dry separation. Its curtain was moldy and the tiles above the bathtub were broken. Hair dryers were available in the common area, though I didn’t try them. There are clotheslines in the garden for drying clothes and towels. The hotel is fairly near the airport and the island’s main street. Transfers cost extra, so I walked. Internet was completely unusable. For the price, there was no service or quality to speak of. I stayed four nights and won’t return.

Marcelo, the host, was very welcoming and happy to share information, including about tours and car rentals. You can also walk to the place from the airport.

People were so friendly and attentive, like everyone on Rapa Nui. A fantastic place to stay.
