We spent five nights in the two-bedroom villa, which also had a living room, kitchen and terrace. The location is convenient, with lots of restaurants and shops within a 15-minute walk. Breakfast had a good range of meat, cheese and fruit, and staff fried eggs each day, though the portion varied from one to two eggs per person. Coffee came one pot at a time, so when it ran out we had to find someone to make more. The refrigerator in the villa was new and large. Carolina manages the hotel and speaks the best English. The owner and his family were friendly, and Carolina washed our clothes for free, gave us avocados for breakfast and some of her mom’s birthday cake, and let us check out at noon. She was usually the person we needed to contact by WhatsApp, since most of the time nobody was around. The villa was hot and humid during the day. Its one air conditioner barely worked, and the old fan wouldn’t stay upright, so we propped it with a chair. Sun shone straight into both bedrooms, though it cooled off at night. The red couch had stains, the bedroom rugs and light switches were dirty, and the silverware and knives were rusty. One knife had paint on it. There were dead cockroaches on the floor. The bedroom screen door had been screwed shut, with a sharp screw sticking out. The bathroom window had no screen, so we had to close it at night to keep out mosquitoes. The hotel only replaces towels. Cleaning the villa costs $35 a day. The toilet paper holder was broken, leaving the paper on the floor, and there were no soap dishes, so soap sat on the shower floor. Water temperature swung from hot to cold, and the propane water heater smelled of propane during showers. I used the teapot to prop open the bedroom door. There are two exterior doors, but only the terrace door has a key. To reach it, we had to cross dirt and grass, which was muddy in rain and full of cockroaches at night. Chickens and a dog roamed the yard and left droppings around the villa that weren’t cleaned up. Too many problems with this hotel.

The room and bed were comfortable, and everything was very clean. Breakfast was really good too. The owners treated us like family and were helpful, sharing advice about things to do from the time we booked until we left. Cabanas Hare Henua is in a great location, within walking distance of Main Street. The people are lovely, and I’d recommend the place to anyone. Sad to leave. Thank you, Cabanas Hare Henua.

We stayed in room 4 upstairs, which had a terrace, and I loved the wooden building. The room was kept clean and tidy each day, and the family running the place were so friendly. Breakfast was great too, especially the homemade fruit jam. A really beautiful room, 100% recommend it.
