Hostal Petero Atamu

The employees treated us very well, and the room was cleaned every day. But for much of the day there was nobody in the building, and the hostess could take hours to reply to messages. The neighborhood dogs were really scary and were let outside at night, so getting in or out after 10 was hard. The listing and some reviews said there was a shared kitchen, but the owner wouldn't let us use it.

Getting around was easy from here: the main street, Ahu Tahai, and the Fishermen's Wharf are all within walking distance. The woman who runs the place will pick you up at the airport and take you back when you leave, and even let me use her cell phone once. Breakfast was a hearty egg with specialty bread and OJ. Everything was clean, with plenty of towels, blankets, pillows, and other supplies. The staff are very friendly. Rosco, the friendly dog, can be fun to watch when he chases a cat or chicken, and we woke to roosters crowing every day. The WiFi was hit or miss. We could receive email but had trouble sending messages. Still, when you're visiting Rapa Nui, who wants to spend time on email? I'd definitely stay here again and recommend this hostel to anyone traveling to Rapa Nui.

For Easter Island, this is a nice, affordable place to stay. The owners are very friendly, and you can rent a car or bike right at the hostel.

The room was spacious but old-fashioned. Staff were friendly, and breakfast was quite nice.
