The room was large and the bed comfortable, but the service was hit and miss. Breakfast was disappointing, with little choice. On two of the three days our fried eggs arrived cold or lukewarm. Buffet items were left empty while male staff stood in the corner looking at their phones. The women seemed much more attentive to the buffet and clearing tables. The property could use some care. There were loose, cracked tiles in the elevator and our bathroom, and the chairs and sofas were quite worn out.

The one good thing is how close it is to the city centre. The hotel tries to look posh, but it really doesn’t pull it off. Rooms get very hot and only have a small column fan. Mine faced the street, and I could hear everything loudly, which made it hard to sleep. The shower took a while to drain. The worst part was the ironing. They wouldn’t lend me an iron, which I’ve never experienced before, and charged me way too much for each item. A staff member admitted it was done on purpose. Breakfast choices were limited, and one waiter was rude, as was the male receptionist on Sunday.

The company I was visiting paid, so I can’t comment on the prices, but I’d definitely recommend this place to business travelers. It’s well located next to the Japanese Gardens and the downtown area around plaza de armas, and it has an in-house restaurant and bar. I was pleasantly surprised: the building is getting older, but the rooms are huge and nicely furnished, with big comfortable beds and hot water in the shower.
