Reino Fungi

The service was a perfect 10/10, and everyone was so friendly. They even gave my partner a bottle of wine for their birthday, though we had no corkscrew or glasses to enjoy it with. The food was also a bright spot: breakfast was 9/10, with delicious desserts, though the bread selection was very average and I missed having hot chocolate. They had chocolate milk, but it isn't the same. The restaurant was 10/10, and I didn't have a single thing I disliked. The self-guided trails are free for hotel guests, which is great, but guided tours still cost quite a lot. There's no free ride to the trailheads either, they charge $15,000 COP for a transfer to one, so I'd recommend going by car. The parking lot is a long way from the hotels, and you have to lug your bags along a dirt road. The hotel is beautiful and very Instagrammable, but a lot of it wasn't operating. I wanted to watch sunset from the Nothofagus Hotel rooftop, but it was closed, and none of the three hotel rooftops were open to guests. The spa was only partly running: the cold plunge pools were closed, the one outdoor pool was full of wasps, and the pool hydromassage and some jacuzzis weren't working. One bar was shut, too. Some areas felt deserted, including an outdoor hot tub area that was badly neglected. For $150,000 COP per person per night, I expected more in the room. I chose Reino Fungi for its balcony, but there weren't any chairs out there to enjoy the lovely view. There was no kettle, complimentary coffee or tea, or bathtub. The temperature was extremely hard to control, the lighting was poor, and a fire alarm light flashed above our heads all night. A few things were broken or worn: light switches, a loose sink, mold on the shower sealant, and torn spa robes. For that high price, I expect a lot more. I've stayed in places costing less than a third as much that had a bathtub, a kettle with free coffee, free water, more luggage space, and a desk.

Families with kids will probably enjoy this one most out of the three hotels on the property. There's plenty to keep them entertained, and the place feels magical. Highly recommend it for families.

The restaurant is okay, and both breakfast and dinner tasted good. The surroundings are lovely, though there are some run-down buildings along the hiking trails, presumably hotel-run. The rooms are in poor shape and clearly worn out. The spa doesn't seem to be maintained to European standards, and the whole complex shows its 25 years. It looks like nothing has been done for a long time.
