Hotel Puerta Del Sol

We had to sleep with the windows open all night because the room was so warm, though the beds were comfortable. The breakfast buffet was good and dinner was decent. The bar service felt a bit like Fawlty Towers 🤣🤣. For skiing, the location is superb and convenient.

The staff at Hotel Puerta del Sol are always trying their best to help, and I love coming back to this cozy place in the Chilean Andes for a family winter getaway. The rooms feel comfortable and welcoming, with spectacular snowy mountain views. The TVs have recently been upgraded to larger models, though the signal is poor and the Wi-Fi is unreliable, which is frustrating at this price. After a day on the slopes, I miss the old afternoon coffee, cookies, and soup service. The daycare is good but has limited hours, and its movie selection for kids could be better. The room is often too dark and full of teens instead of small children, so younger kids want to leave early. The ski rental process feels outdated. You wait in line to sign a paper guarantee, then wait again to reverse it when returning the gear. At these prices, that should be automated during payment. The route from the restaurant area to the ski class zone is also poorly designed for beginners. The iron staircase ends awkwardly before reaching flat ground, creating a fall risk. A moving walkway or extended stairs would make more sense. I also wish the cold swimming pool were replaced with a hot tub, which would be lovely in the snow. The mountain views and cozy winter atmosphere make for an unforgettable stay, and a few improvements could take the place further.

The location is great, but the place is way too crowded for the infrastructure it has. It’s grown without the needed improvements. We literally waited two hours in line for ski rental, so rent your skis elsewhere. The restaurants also don’t have enough waiters, and getting a meal takes hours.

The room was very basic and everything felt old. For a five star price, the service was only two star, and the staff didn’t seem willing to help. Even though the restaurant reservation was already paid for, it was hard to get one, and I had to beg for things that were included. A really bad experience. I won’t be back.
