After I was evacuated from Torres del Paine during a blizzard and ended up in hospital, Hostal Bellavista Patagonia picked me up in the middle of the night. They gave me a bed and breakfast in the morning. These are truly caring, wonderful people, and they know the area and Torres del Paine very well. I’d absolutely recommend Bellavista Patagonia if you want to stay with locals who care about you as a person, not just your wallet.

I can’t recommend staying here. I was there for at most 20 minutes, so I can’t really judge the location, though it looked okay on the map. My room, bed, and bedding were grubby, tired, and in poor repair. There was hair on the pillow, which made me wonder if it had been changed after the last guest. Bellavista is a very unsuitable name for a place with a view of a messy yard that reminded me of the local tip. The owner was nice about it and even offered to help me find somewhere else, so that part of other reviews seems true.

I booked somewhere else before the owners told me to leave because I was afraid they’d find another reason to abuse me. They treated me rudely and disrespectfully from the start, and I felt like a dog despite being respectful. I left the kitchen when told, and even made sure to close doors gently in the morning so I wouldn’t wake anyone. They gave no explanations, just abuse. They called me racist names and accused only me of making a mess in the kitchen, even though I hadn’t and other guests were there. They gave me two minutes to pack and get out. They didn’t care that I had no data or whether I’d booked somewhere to sleep. Other people left their dishes in the sink overnight without it being a problem. The night before, after a long hike and coming straight back from the bus, I wasn’t allowed to boil water for noodles, while others could use the kitchen, boil water, and use the oven. Someone had to sneak me food so I wouldn’t starve. They’d tell me I had five minutes to pack my things from the kitchen and leave, while other guests had all the luxuries I didn’t. They miscommunicated with each other and blamed me, saying I hadn’t reserved even though I had and had spoken with the workers, since the people running the place were rarely around. They also accused me of not paying, though I paid for all my nights right away. There was mould in the shower and bed bugs in the bed. I would’ve preferred to be turned away rather than go through this.

The staff were caring toward all the guests and worked hard to make sure everyone had a great stay in their home.

The rooms are basic, but the price is good and the location is great. The staff were helpful in all sorts of ways, especially Jose and Gabriela, who gave us great hiking advice. They explained ways to make the W Trek more affordable, since it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. The rental gear was good and fairly priced. If you’re doing the W Trek and need help planning or equipment, this is a good place to go.
