Weskar Lodge

The restaurant was very accommodating with gluten-free and vegetarian options, and I was greeted with fresh gluten-free bread at dinner. Sadly, it closes at 10pm, which felt early, and we missed our chance to eat when our return bus ran late on the second night. The hotel is a bit far from the city center, but walking and biking paths make it easy to get there without a taxi. It’s an excellent boutique hotel with wonderful service and looks like the pictures. They kept our luggage for 2 USD per day while we were on the W trek, even though we weren’t returning to the same hotel.

Most rooms look out over the water, and ours had a comfy bed and everything we needed. They were almost too warm. The staff at Weskar were very friendly, and we never had to wait long for help. We enjoyed the free breakfast and had a very good dinner there one night. The welcome drinks were a little too sweet for us, but it was a nice gesture.

The staff were polite and helpful, and spoke English well. They were also happy to put up with our clumsy attempts at español. We thought the bad reviews might reflect expectations that didn’t match reality. Weskar is great, but don’t expect the Waldorf Astoria or Ritz Carlton.

We had a great experience and would come back. The food was great, the place was very clean, and the service was really nice. The front desk lady was amazing, helping us sort out our last-minute tour of TDP, arrange taxis, and figure out when we needed to get to the bus station to check in. It’s a bit outside town, so you’ll need a cab or have to walk about a mile, but the views are prettier than in town.
