Casa Cabaña Oro Rayado Puerto Varas

This felt like a run-down house, not a cabin. Things barely worked: the outlets were faulty, the gate was awkward to close, and the parking space was tiny, barely enough for a sub. The stove wasn’t in great shape, and its door was a hassle too, we had to use a spoon to close it. Luckily we only stayed one night. The owner meant well, but it still wasn’t a good experience, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

We booked two weeks ahead, but the owner cancelled two days before we were due to arrive, saying there had been an unforeseen problem. All she offered was our deposit back or a cabin belonging to her sister, 45 minutes away in Puerto Varas. That felt disrespectful. If she really had to travel because of a genuine problem, she could have left the keys with someone or suggested a nearby guesthouse. We were coming from the Third Region and didn’t know the area. We had prepared in advance and researched whether the property was trustworthy because we knew there were risks with booking online. We couldn’t just turn up and find another cabin overnight. It was a disappointment, and I don’t recommend this place.

Buses stop right outside, and minibuses run along the avenue. We mostly took Ubers into the center or to the coast, and it never cost more than $2,500. The place itself was really comfortable, spotless when we arrived, and smelled lovely. The owner was so kind and even left us firewood for the stove. We’ll definitely come back in summer.

We only stayed one night, and the service was excellent. The rooms are nice for the price, and the location is very central. Just keep in mind that downtown Puerto Montt feels dangerous at night. Check-in ends at 10:00 pm and check-out is at 10:00 am. Highly recommended.
