Rio Maullin Lodge

I’ve brought my family back to this lodge every year for the past eight years. The owners run it themselves, and it’s always been our peaceful little paradise and ideal vacation spot. The river view is enviable, and I love relaxing in the hammocks. The food is exquisite, and breakfast keeps us full until the afternoon. In all those years, I’ve never had food poisoning or any other food issues. As for menu variety, places can’t be expected to meet every dietary preference, when it isn’t an allergy, so let them know or ask ahead. The whole place has a five-star service feel, and it’s completely peaceful.

I’m speaking from what happened to me, though I know others were affected too. On Friday, December 27, 2024, my coworkers and I went for an outing here. The welcome was warm, breakfast was plentiful, and we enjoyed the hot tubs, pools, and beautiful surroundings. At approximately $58,000 per person, it felt worth the money at the time. Lunch was the first issue: there was no vegetarian menu. I was served a slice of pizza that was unfortunately undercooked, so I left it uneaten. The person who took it away seemed annoyed, but that was minor. The serious part started the next afternoon, Saturday, December 28, 2024. I got severe stomach pain, then spent the night vomiting every hour, with muscle aches and chills. At first I thought it was only me. By Sunday I felt worse and found that several coworkers had similar symptoms, including diarrhea. Something went wrong with the food preparation, and several of us became ill. I had to see a doctor, pay for expensive medication, and get tests because I don’t know whether it was a virus or food poisoning. That kitchen’s negligence has made for a very difficult new year for me. I won’t get into defective services such as the bicycles, because this was much more serious. I definitely wouldn’t return.

Getting here on the gravel road can be a little tricky in a smaller car. Once there, though, it’s a great place to relax and spend time with others. The food is very good and there are different activities, including cabins, a game room, and other amenities. I especially liked the hot tubs and access to the river.

The place is beautiful, and I really like it. Great for resting and spending time with family, with plenty of different activities. The service is excellent.
