We moved to Fauna after a disastrous stay at Casa Don Tomas, and the difference was huge. The hotel is beautifully designed by two architects who are apparently also co-owners. As an architect myself, I especially appreciated the modern, honest design and craft, so different from the faux-artisan look elsewhere in Atacama. Our room was lovely, with large windows facing the mountains, plenty of privacy, and a small terrace. The service felt simple and personal. The front desk was helpful with recommendations, casual conversation, and quick WhatsApp replies. They met all our needs and went further, welcoming us with coffee, bringing desserts to make us feel at home, and making sure the room was ready on time. It’s a bit outside town, but with a car I actually preferred being away from the noise and dusty roads. Stargazing at night was another plus. Highly recommended.
The staff made Fauna stand out most for us. They were friendly and helpful, with such warm, kind energy. Gonzalo deserves a special mention for going out of his way to make sure we had a great stay. You can tell he loves his work. We found a few things that could be improved while the hotel is still in its early launch phase, as of May 2026. Wi-Fi worked fine in reception but was very weak in our room. Filtered bottled water was available, but we had to ask for it. A dispenser in reception for filling bottles before heading out would be helpful, since tap water in San Pedro isn’t potable. Breakfast could offer more, perhaps yoghurt, pastries, sausages, or better cereal, though the limited options made sense with so few guests during our stay. Our room also felt warm and stuffy without A/C, even in cooler May. Opening the windows at night helped a little, but it’s something to consider in summer. The hotel is sleek, modern, and minimalist, with natural materials and colors that suit the desert. The rooms are spacious and well designed, with outdoor space for relaxing. Breakfast is a buffet in a stylish restaurant that opens up to the fresh air and light. There was a good selection of cereal, bread, pancakes, and fresh fruit, plus eggs cooked to order. We also enjoyed dinner there one evening. The menu was small but had interesting choices at fair prices for the area. Fauna Atacama was a great base for exploring the region, and we’re glad we chose it. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk from central San Pedro, which suited us. Being away from the busy town made it quiet and peaceful. We didn’t rent a car, taking tours instead, but there’s parking at the hotel if needed. We rented bikes twice, which was a great way to explore on our own. We’d highly recommend Fauna and would stay again if we return to San Pedro de Atacama.
I’m giving it five stars because this place has a lot of potential, and I hope it improves further. It looks like a brand new hotel, with a lovely view, and it’s quiet a little outside the main town but still walkable. The bed was comfortable, breakfast was delicious, and the staff were very helpful and friendly, which was a big plus. A few things to know: the Wi-Fi is very weak in rooms away from the main check-in building. There’s no TV or fridge in the room, and if you want tea or hot water you have to walk to the restaurants. Technically, though, this place only serves breakfast and doesn’t have a restaurant. There’s not much in the room, but at least they provide a bottle of water and you can ask for more. The main downside during my May stay was flies and mosquitoes. I think keeping the doors closed while staff clean the rooms would stop them getting inside. Other than that, it’s a very nice place to stay in San Pedro.
We felt comfortable from the moment we arrived. Our room was spotless, well equipped, and looked out onto the mountains. The breakfast was delicious and had everything we wanted. The staff were courteous, attentive, and helpful, especially Gonzalo. We had a wonderful stay and would love to return.
The food was great, and the staff were really friendly. We had an amazing stay and would definitely come back!
