Residencial Chiloe

This is only about the restaurant, since that’s all I tried. We were six people and ordered several different dishes. The food was okay, but not as good as at other restaurants around the same price. Some orders got mixed up, though they fixed that without any trouble. It wouldn’t be my first choice, but it was fine.

Our stay was pleasant, though we only used the room for a night because we had an early tour. We had a shared bathroom. Breakfast was included, or they offer lunch instead if you’re going on a tour. Since we don’t eat local meat, the buns they provided with meat weren’t something we could eat.

The owner let about half a dozen English football fans in much earlier than he was supposed to so we could watch the England game. He trusted us to serve ourselves from the beer cabinet and settle up afterward. Two of us stayed for food once the game was over, and it was excellent. Prices were reasonable too.

We found this place on our hotel receptionist’s recommendation, and he goes there often. The lunch specials were 4,000 pesos each, about USD 5, with bread and tasty pebre included. We had pastel de choclo con carne and chuleta de cerdo al horno, each with two sides. The pork was really tender and tasty, and the pastel de choclo was quite nice. We also had two pisco sours, one mild with less pisco and one regular. The service was quick, kind and helpful, and the internet connection was good. A good, inexpensive, no-frills restaurant. Highly recommend!
