1 Hostal Galeria

The place was clean, though the room was small and the neighborhood felt a bit sketchy.

Kira was really friendly, but the Russian man we dealt with was extremely rude and spoke neither Spanish nor English. We were traveling as a group and stayed three days in a shared ground-floor room with no windows. The hostel itself was clean and quiet, but that man's behavior made the whole experience awful. When we checked out, he initially said it was fine to leave our bags there while we took one last walk around Santiago. Back at the hostel, we sat on the reception sofa for about five minutes to use the internet and call an Uber. Then he got up and shouted, "chicas malas y fuera ahora," telling us to take our bags and leave immediately. We explained we only needed the internet to arrange our ride, but he turned off the WiFi and stood watching us until we left. Luckily, we had mobile data. He had already been rude to another guest, who ended up crying. I wanted to share this as a warning to other travelers.

The place is clean, but the service was awful. I went to a nearby shop and rang the bell when I got back. The man who answered looked angry and just grumbled. When I asked him to open the door, he gestured and kept muttering as if it was already open. I didn't know how the security gate worked, and he could have opened it without making such a fuss. He shouldn't be working there.

The place itself was clean and comfortable, but the service was terrible and really took away from our trip. The older receptionist made me feel mocked and strongly discriminated against. At first he wouldn't let us in, and only did after a few calls. When we asked how to pay, he didn't answer and tossed the bank transfer details onto the table. He also ignored our question about when we should arrive. Later, when he had to open the door, he did it with an annoyed huff. I'm leaving this rating as a warning.
