Hotel Plaza San Francisco

After weeks on the road, we found the spacious, spotless rooms and comfortable beds exactly what we needed. The pool, gym, and spa were a treat, and a great place to relax and recharge. Breakfast had a huge range of options. I enjoyed a morning mimosa, which was included, and both the bar and restaurant were excellent for a quick drink or bite, as well as a proper dinner. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful. It was especially comforting that everyone spoke English after weeks of stumbling through Spanish. We’d happily stay at Hotel Plaza San Francisco again and recommend it to anyone visiting Santiago.

We stayed five nights. The entrance looks great, the doormen were attentive, and check-in staff were friendly and helpful. The elevators were fast, the guest-controlled AC kept a good temperature, and the breakfast was good. I also appreciated the large safe, extra pillows and blankets, small fridge, hot shower, big windows, and all the wood. The room felt dated, and the mattresses were lumpy and need replacing. There was a smell from the sink water, and its drain was slow. The bathroom floor felt sticky, perhaps because it wasn’t cleaned every day. The toilet paper holder was awkward to use, as was the bathroom trash bin. The outlets were worn, so chargers and adaptors wouldn’t stay connected. I had to crawl under the desk to use the coffee maker outlets. All smart TV functions were disabled, so I couldn’t use Netflix or YouTube or cast anything. I prefer an outdoor pool to one three levels underground, and expected a hot tub, but there wasn’t one. When I asked for ice at the terrace bar, I felt snubbed and got very little.

Our room on the eighth floor was quiet and had a nice view over San Francisco Square. The hotel is pleasant and centrally located, and breakfast and the bar meal we ordered were both good. Reception was hectic when we arrived because a conference was underway, but the staff handled everyone’s luggage very well. I’d choose this hotel again.

The city center location is good, but the building needs renovation. The rooms feel worn, there’s no smart TV, and the shower never got fully hot. Breakfast was okay, with a decent range, though the pastries were always dry. It must have been a nice building once.
