Zero Hotel

We found Zerohotel at the last minute for a New Year trip. I’d heard Valparaiso was known for huge fireworks, so after traveling to Santiago we spent 2 days in Valpo. It’s a small boutique hotel with about 9 rooms. We had a queen bed room on the first floor, facing the street. The room was simple but lovely, with high ceilings. There are 3 terraces, and the hotel sits high on a hill with views over the ocean and port bay. The whole team was pleasant, helpful, and accommodating. Gabi was especially kind when we arrived, giving me water after my boyfriend somehow got me to walk from el estacion de buses to the hotel. DO NOT DO THIS! There are lots of uphill streets and stairs, and the cobblestone roads are pretty steep. Gabi also suggested Olichen for New Year’s Eve dinner and managed to get us a last-minute reservation. The meal was delicious and such a great experience. The hotel is a perfect spot to watch the fireworks away from the crowds and chaos. It was cloudy with little wind, so the show wasn’t as grand as in past years, but we still had a fabulous time with the staff and other guests, plus the complimentary bottle of champagne. I wasn’t ready for how long the celebrations would go on. Valparisianos (?) and their guests or visitors love to ring in the new year all night, until about 7am, to be precise. I barely slept, so be warned!

The views from the garden and terrace are spectacular, and the flowers are incredible. Breakfast was delicious too. Our room was cozy and comfortable, and the staff were wonderfully welcoming and accommodating, with excellent English. The location was superb for exploring the touristy area of valparaiso on foot.

We booked two spacious, nicely furnished rooms on the second floor, and especially liked the bathrooms. One room looked out over the bay. Everyone at the front desk was lovely and helpful, especially Matias, and the breakfast room has an amazing view. There was plenty of choice at breakfast, and the made-to-order scrambled eggs were perfect. We’d stumbled on the hotel while looking for a great view and a convenient location for The Redbull Valparaíso cerro abajo event. It had everything we wanted. There’s a great parking garage right across from the hotel, and Patty was so kind and patient, staying late on our last day while we went to get our car. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Valparaiso.

The staff made us feel right at home, everyone was friendly and informative. The included breakfast was delicious, and we still want the recipe for that phenomenal raspberry cake. We had a wonderful stay at The Zero Hotel and highly recommend it to anyone coming to Valparaiso. The location was perfect and we felt safe walking around. Our suite was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a stellar view. If we return to Valparaiso, we’ll definitely book another suite at Zero Hotel!
