We found the place lived-in, simple, and authentic, with smokers around, but it was absolutely not dirty or unfriendly. Richard, the owner, was warm and helpful, and his stories as an author and international adventurer made for great conversation. He even pointed us toward a local homemade pisco distiller we never would have discovered ourselves. It's a lovely base for hikes and nearby observatories, and I hope to come back for more chats. Thanks for a wonderful few days. (Edit: I just saw the one-star review. Looking at that reviewer's other posts, it sounds like their time in Chile was frustrating.)

The atmosphere was so peaceful, and I loved being able to see the stars from the terrace at night. I brought my little dog along, and it all worked out wonderfully. Felipe was an amazing host, breakfast was great, and the shower was too. The beds were okay, though the creaking wood was a little annoying. The hostel could use some renovations, but the new owners clearly care and are working on it.

With so little light around, it's a beautiful spot for watching the stars. The place is pretty rural and tucked away, quite a way from Vicuña and Pisco Elqui, though buses run regularly from the main road.

The homemade jam at breakfast is hard to forget. The hosts were wonderful and shared lots of useful information, and I had a good stay overall.

It's a nice hostel with friendly staff and a good breakfast. The location may be the drawback, since it's a bit far from Pisco Elqui and the valley, but I still liked the place.
