Chinese Box Courtyard Hostel Beijing

The prices were great, the showers were fine, and breakfast was perfect. They also serve delicious espresso. There's not much space to hang out, but the bikes and tour recommendations make this a go-to hostel.

The staff were friendly and helpful with questions, and I liked the room, especially the effective A/C and the locker for keeping valuables safe. The location is handy, quite close to Xisi subway station, so it's easy to reach the major attractions. There are small restaurants and shops nearby, though not many bars. Locals seem to drink beer at the little restaurants, which close early. The alley where the hostel sits can look dark at night, but the area feels very safe, with almost no crime in Beijing, so there's probably little chance of anything untoward happening. There is a nice bar about a 20-minute walk away, Nbeer Pub (85 Huguosi Dajie), sometimes open until 0200. Xaidan district, with a few large shopping centers, is also a 20-minute walk away.

A great backpackers inn in a traditional houtong. The friendly staff, clean linen, and good facilities made it easy to relax and meet fellow travelers while seeing Beijing from a local perspective.

The best part of my time in Beijing was staying here. It's a great place to meet people and head out on local adventures while you're in the city. Highly recommend it.
