I really regret booking four nights here. The room's air conditioning and heater were faulty during my early December stay in Beijing, and there was no air in the room. Showering also meant getting the basin and toilet paper wet, since there were no hooks on the walls or door for clothes. They supplied only paper cups, even for tea or coffee, and I had to ask for basics like a toilet floor mat. If zero stars were an option, that's what I'd give.

The hostel is right behind Dongsi subway station, with plenty of restaurants nearby. You'll need some basic Chinese for many of them, though the staff are happy to suggest places or help as much as they can. They were among the nicest and most helpful people I've met in China, and their English is unusually good for a place like this. That's a big part of the charm. For the price, it's a very good stay. The rooms could use renovations at some point, and they're a bit noisy, so you can hear the neighbors. If that bothers you, maybe travel in China or Asia isn't for you. Thanks for a good time.

They serve an American-style breakfast, and can book most sightseeing tours. The staff are very kind and will even help sort out an issue when it was your own fault.
