Bridal Tea House - Tai Kok Tsui Li Tak Street

The room was clean, though pretty worn, and it was larger than many places like this where the mattress touches three walls. At first it looked dirty, but it was really just old and tired, like an ’80s basement at a friend’s house where nobody’s parents are around. The floor was clean enough, there were slippers I didn’t use, and I saw no bugs or signs of them. I’d say it was sanitary. I had room for my two big suitcases by the door, which surprised me. The sheets were clean, though I always bring my own little travel blanket. The washroom was clean enough for a single guy, but the toilet had a huge brown mineral stain that I don’t think can be removed. The towels were so-so, fine for drying off, but I used paper towels on my face. There were several hairs on the towels, something I sadly see even in expensive hotels now. The wrapped toothbrush and rain shower head were actually really nice. The fire escape was being used for storage and was constantly blocked. The elevator is okay for three or four people, or one or two with luggage. Just FYI, the blocked exit could make this place a death trap in a fire. For a single guy willing to compromise on price, it could work. Hong Kong is expensive, and places like this make it possible for backpackers and people on modest incomes to visit. The traveller photos are accurate. I stayed two days and it did the trick, but I wouldn’t suggest staying longer. It’s a five to seven minute walk from Olympic MTR station, and a taxi to the airport with three bags was about $300 HKD, which wasn’t bad. Would I come back? It’s 50-50.
