Comfort Lodge, Hong Kong

Temple Street is about a five-minute walk away, and the MTR station is just as close, so it's convenient for sightseeing. The location is excellent, in the busy Yau Ma Tei area, with lots of shopping nearby. One description calls it a feeling of home: the rooms are in a residential building, small but comfortable, with attentive service and good value for money. The entrance is tricky to find, with no signs on the street or in the garden. It's a guesthouse converted from a private building, and one account says it hardly qualifies as a hotel, with substandard rooms and a very basic bathroom. There are many guesthouses like this in Hong Kong. The owner is said to be Filipino and to own several floors for small tour groups and individual travelers, with quite a few mainland Chinese visitors.

The receptionist was unbelievably rude. When I called with a question, they answered, “What's wrong now?” The service fell below even the basic standard I'd expect at a hotel. They really need to review the quality of their staff. This was worse than garbage.
