My flight was cancelled because of the war in the Middle East, so I tried to cancel my reservation. They didn’t even respond to my request.

I spent ten days here after booking at a reasonable price. The room was very clean, though short on space, which suited Hong Kong. The staff were really friendly, and I’ll definitely stay here again on my next visit to Hong Kong.

For check-in, first find the Block B sign after entering the main entrance of Chungking Mansions. Go straight in past the shops and people. The lifts in the other blocks don’t connect, so be sure to use Block B. Take the lift to the 10th floor for the reception at B7, as the address says. Once you’ve checked in and received your key or code, go down to the 7th floor, room B2, as booked.

Never again. I booked this hostel for the price, but the booking didn’t make it clear where the room was, and when I arrived I couldn’t find a sign for “Fortune Inn.” The reception is on the 10th floor and my room was on the 7th. The staff were very friendly and even helped me find a SIM card. The room itself was incredibly cramped and tiny, and the ventilation ran all night, so I slept with earplugs. There were no shared areas or kitchen. The location is convenient, with the subway accessible right from the building. There are officially only two elevators going up, and the wait felt endless, so I spent the next few days walking up and down the dirty stairwell. Make sure you can exchange money or have a credit card that works in China.
