This was a very clean private studio style room with bunk beds, though the hostel didn’t have the social feel of places with a common area. It was cheap compared with other hostels, and I’d gladly stay here again when I’m back in HK. Thanks, Amy and Sam! Getting settled was confusing: the reception is at Hong Kong Mansion Hotel, while the rooms are in Pearl City Mansion, which has entrances A, B, and C, so be sure to use the right one. I arrived at 2 AM, and Sam kindly upgraded me to a double room for free because the people in the other building were already asleep. The room had a shower, heater, lockers, hangers, slippers, a washing machine, and some coffee. There’s a supermarket next door and MTR Causeway Bay Station nearby.

We booked through booking.com, thinking we had a 10-bed mixed dorm, but the room we got seemed to have at least 14 beds. It was also rough sharing the dorm as the social space. There was a balcony and laundry facilities, which were nice, but the showers smelled so bad we were gagging. We had to sleep with the windows open, and the showers stayed dirty and covered in hair even after the cleaners had been through. The hostel was in a really good location and one of the only semi-affordable options we found when booking, but the quality came with a compromise. Check-in was the worst and strangest I’ve experienced. We got no instructions ahead of time, so we followed the booking.com address to the first building, went to floor 17, and found a sign telling us to check in on floor 11. The check-in desk was in someone’s apartment. Then we were told the actual accommodation was in another building five minutes away. The woman checking us in was lovely and sweet, but the whole thing was chaotic and made an already stressful day harder.

The kitchen was a godsend since eating out in HK can get expensive. There wasn’t much of a social vibe, but the dorm was a good base for a few days, right in Causeway Bay and close to Victoria Park, so it was easy to head out and enjoy HK. It was a bit hard to find, and there are two buildings, but once I got settled everything was fine. It’s a rare cheap place in HK that isn’t infested with cockroaches, though you can’t always count on that. I stayed in May 2025.

I got lucky with the room, since it seems they use several places in different buildings and take you elsewhere after check-in at their office. Mine had plenty of space, four bathrooms for ten people, filtered drinking water in the room, big lockers, and a comfy bed with curtains and lights inside. It was clean, quiet, and the WiFi was strong. Had a really good stay and would definitely come back.

The location is great, right by the MTR, the price is fine, and the WiFi works well. But I wouldn’t call the hostel good. Reception is in another building, there’s no lobby or common area, and the room and bathroom were pretty dirty. They’re cleaned once a day, but people walk through in their shoes and six people shower there. You can use the fridge, but there are no towels and some lockers are broken. If you’re not used to hostels, this could feel a bit scary.
