The location made this a particularly good value for me: Sheung Wan MTR is a one-minute walk away, with a 7-Eleven and lots of food nearby. For getting around, I'd give it five stars. The hotel looks plain from outside, but inside it felt clean, warm, and comfortable, almost like home, and I'd stay again. My room was modest in size but laid out well enough to open a large suitcase. It had a comfortable king bed, TV, strong air-conditioning, and a clean bathroom with dependable hot and cold water. The wooden-style floor helped keep the room feeling fresh, with no unpleasant smell. I also liked having a road-facing window for ventilation. Staff at reception were polite and helpful. We arrived around noon, and they stored our luggage securely before check-in. There's an elevator, plus a microwave and water dispenser downstairs. The room had tea, coffee, and a kettle. I didn't expect complimentary bottled water, since even many five-star hotels in Hong Kong don't provide it.

For under HKD400, a one-night stay can be tolerable when a room is available. The entrance is narrow, with orange signage beside Fu Wah cafe, and the surrounding roads are hemmed in by old office buildings. Sheung Wan MTR is close, though it has no lift for travelers with bags, so getting up the stairs is a struggle. The rooms seem to have been carved out of a building that wasn't designed as a hotel, with poorly built partitions. Renovation looked slipshod compared with iClub, and the rooms were badly worn and overdue for a makeover. The toilets have no windows and poor ventilation, with possible fire hazards. Hot water came and went, seemingly in sync with the TV reception. I found no fridge, and there was no water station, though a 7-11 is around the corner.

The room was a little small, so I'd suggest getting one with a balcony for extra space. Staff were nice and very helpful, and the location is great, about a two-minute walk from the Tramway and Sheung Wan Stn.

It's worth considering if you're on a budget: the MTR is nearby, the area stays quiet at night, and there's a 7-Eleven close by. Check-in was easy and the staff were welcoming, though there's an extra tourist tax to pay. The room itself was a bit disappointing and needs refurbishing. Wallpaper was peeling, and some switches on the portable socket didn't work. Luckily, the wall plug worked, so charging wasn't a problem.
