Hong Kong Island YHA Jockey Club Mt. Davis Youth Hostel

The view is lovely and the owner is incredibly nice, but the facilities are just plain bad. The restrooms are too humid and moldy, and water drips from the ceiling. For three days in a row, it took us almost 45 minutes to get a taxi down the hill because drivers didn't want to go up there. I understand and agree you get what you pay for, and this hostel is on the cheaper side for HK. Still, this will be a one-time stay.

For a youth hostel, the rooms are clean and tidy. There's a beautiful sea view from the mountaintop, and the city is less than 20 minutes away. The kitchen and shower room have what you need, except for food, drinks, and toiletries, which you have to bring yourself.

A nice spot at the top of the hill, with a gorgeous sunset and scenic views of Kowloon, Disney, the airport, and the ports and harbour.

The views from Mount Davis are great if you want somewhere peaceful to relax. But this is a poor choice for a cheap place to sleep between hard-partying nights in Hong Kong. The hostel's free bus to Kennedy Town takes nearly 30 minutes and runs only once an hour, so you need to book to make sure you get a seat. Many taxis won't take you there or pick you up, and walking back takes 50-60 minutes uphill. Getting there from the city means a steep, intense trek, and no local buses go up the mount. Check the website too: if you're not a Youth Hostel member, you'll be asked to join for 150 HK Dollars, so work out whether it's worth it. The place has a good view, big and very clean rooms, a no-smoking environment, and cool service, but transport is bad and it's a long way from everything else.
