Wanchai 88 Hotel

The staff service was excellent and the location unbeatable. Our twin room was quite spacious, clean, and modern, and the hotel design is very nice and modern too. They use good quality branded Ritual bathroom amenities, including shampoo, shower gel, and conditioner. The hotel is definitely better than others in the same price range. We’d definitely stay here again next time.

After more than 25 years of travel, I’ve never had an experience this absurd. I paid 1,100 HKD for a non-refundable night, then asked about checking out late because my flight was leaving late at night. They said I had to leave by 11:00, with no exceptions. Staying until 16:00 would cost 1,000 HKD, almost the price of another night for just five hours. I asked to cancel after hearing that, but they refused because of the non-refundable rate, so I felt completely stuck. They gave no reason for the policy and showed no flexibility or professionalism. It felt like they were using the situation to get more money from me. You can decide how ethical that is. I probably should have asked about late checkout before booking, but I never expected this. The staff also seemed uninterested, inattentive, and unfriendly.

The room itself was clean, but the bathroom wasn't. Its walls were mouldy and it didn't look properly maintained. The furnishings were old, and the booking site's photos gave a misleading impression. They also weren't flexible about extending checkout. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

We were left without any help or compensation after a terrible final night of our three-night stay. At 4 a.m., we woke to a revolting smell in the room, like hydrogen sulfide and ammonia. There was no night manager, and the security guard couldn't resolve anything, so we packed quickly and waited on a chair by the entrance. The manager arrived three hours later, but every question or request got the same response: nothing could be done. I asked to speak with the hotel manager and got excuses, with no sign anyone wanted to help. They said no other room was available, so we waited another three hours before one opened up, at least allowing us to shower. Meanwhile, staff reminded me several times that checkout was at 11 a.m.
