The room was compact and clearly old, but it had been cleaned. The host and other guests were helpful.

We were in Hong Kong over a holiday weekend, and on our first night this was the only room we could find unless we had $450 USD for a 5 star hotel, no exaggeration. We had no real choice besides sleeping on the street or in a park. They charged us 1,000 HKD, about $130 USD, for a tiny, dirty room. It was so gross that not showering, brushing our teeth, or using the toilet felt cleaner. We woke up to a wet floor, and our bags were soaked too because they’d been sitting on the floor in stagnant water all night. The hallway was flooded as well, and nobody was around. We couldn’t get a bill or invoice.

The room was filthy, and there was no reception. You have to call a # when you arrive, so you’re stuck if your phone is on the wrong frequency and you can’t reach the owner. Chungking Mansion is essentially little India in HK, and I didn’t feel the building was safe, with drug addicts, drug lords, and prostitutes around. Don’t be misled by the name: a woman doesn’t run this place. Don’t book here. You’d be better off burning your money.

The staff were welcoming and very kind, and we found the room cozy, comfortable, clean, and nicely styled. Everything was perfect for us, and I’d absolutely recommend this property.
