For the price, this turned out to be a decent, quiet, clean and comfortable place. I booked mainly for the low cost and location, and was pleasantly surprised. The room was extremely small, but that was clearly stated, so I can’t complain. There was storage under the bed, plus two windows with a view, a ventillator, air conditioner and TV. The metro is close, and there are dozens of shops and restaurants within the building. I’d read the bad reviews and accounts of dangerous experiences, so I was hesitant to book. But I never felt in danger, even returning at 02:00am. There are security cameras everywhere, and dedicated building security to call if you have a concern. Mandarin Guest House is in Blocks E and F at Chungking Mansion, and that location made a big difference for me. I never had to queue for the elevator there. In other blocks, especially B, I saw queues of 50+ people even at night.

The location was amazing and the staff were really sweet, but there wasn't much else to like. The guesthouse is on the 13th floor of a smelly building, with shops on the ground floor. The odor was unbearable and ruined my experience of all Hong Kong. The entrance to the guesthouse smelled awful too. The room was tiny and so dirty that I'm sure the sheets hadn't been changed before we arrived. Unless you have no pennies left, DON'T GO THERE!!

Good value, with a really comfortable bed and nice, friendly staff. The room was cozy, small but clean and well maintained, and even had a little common kitchen. Make sure to let them know your arrival time in advance.

The first floor is basically a huge indian food court. The guesthouse itself is on the 13th floor of a 15 story building. There are several elevators, but only one goes up to the guesthouse, so getting there can mean a 5 to 10 minute wait. There are plenty of guesthouses like this around the city, so just be aware.

The only good points were the staff and WiFi. The room and flat had an electronic key, with self check in and out. The room was cramped, just 280cm x 120cm including a 60cm x 100cm toilet. The bedding smelled and wasn't clean. The old window A/C was noisy, and there was no sound isolation, so I could hear people next door and in the hall. The building was filthy, with garbage everywhere and people trying to scam tourists. I even saw a man urinating by the building's side door. See elaborate video & picture
