Orchid Inn

For a solo traveller looking for somewhere cheap in expensive Hong Kong, I’d look elsewhere. The photos don’t match the rooms, and the bed felt like sleeping on the floor, even though I’ve had plenty of hard beds before. There was nowhere to keep my clothes or belongings except under or inside the bed. The place had no facilities, and the staff member who welcomed me seemed not to care. He wanted payment before I’d seen the room and didn’t speak English. I’m sure you can find another cheap but great place instead of Orchid inn.

It’s affordable, clean and generally good accommodation. The subway station is a ten-minute walk, and restaurants are everywhere, so finding food is easy. The staff weren’t friendly, though, and the beds were too hard...

The rooms are basic, but have what you need, and it’s good value for money. The staff are friendly, though they don’t speak much English. The beds are very hard, but I’d still rather sleep on one here than stay somewhere in ChungKing Mansions. I’d recommend it.

The rooms are very small, with nowhere to put luggage, and the walls are thin, so there isn’t much privacy or sound insulation. The bathroom also needed a deep clean. On the plus side, it’s inexpensive, the location is decent near a couple of train lines and Ladies Market, and the staff were accommodating and helpful. The sheets were clean and they provided a towel. You get what you pay for, right?
