I usually book hostels in room 16, where the service is exceptionally good and the rooms are quiet, clean and in good condition. This time I was only here on a friend’s recommendation, and I was very disappointed. The sink wouldn’t drain, the hot water wasn’t hot, the toilet was leaking, and there was a dead cockroach in it. We understand that things can happen, but the female maid from the Philippines was the real problem. Please train your employees better. This was embarrassing. I’d booked last week, but when I arrived the room and hostel name were different. I understood that, as I sometimes book one night at another hostel. Check-in was at 3pm, though I’d been told I could come at 2. I usually tell staff I’ll leave at 9pm, and I’d checked that with a male employee and a female employee from Indonesia. She said she’d confirmed it with the owner. At 7.40pm, a female staff member from the Philippines knocked loudly and told me to leave. I was shocked. I explained again that I’d agreed to stay until 9pm, but she kept knocking after I’d already explained. I eventually got upset and said she could speak politely, since I’d paid and made an agreement, and that she should check with her boss first. She replied that she didn’t care and I had to leave right then. She was cruel, evil and arrogant, acting as if she didn’t need a job. She scolded my partner at first, perhaps thinking I wouldn’t speak up because I was quiet. I shouted back and told her she was being very impolite. We reported her to her boss and the other employees. After one of her friends came, she asked us to go back into the room. I think she was scared, but by then we really didn’t want to stay at that hostel.
