Payless Guesthouse - A2

We had booked ten days, but left for another place on the second day because we couldn’t take it any longer. It was the worst experience of our lives, and I can’t understand how it got even two stars. My cousin chose it based on the location and photos without reading the reviews. The photos are fake, and the place was awful: very dirty, stuffy, smelly, unsafe, and not even cheap. I wouldn’t stay there even if I were paid. No self-respecting person could put up with it for more than a day. Update: Their reply mentioned someone I don’t know. We didn’t check in early; we arrived at 5 pm, and we didn’t complete our stay. We arranged to move to California Hotel a few blocks away. I don’t know who they mean in their comment. There were six of us in three rooms.

The room is tiny, so I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you’re claustrophobic. On the ground floor, the building is crowded with shops and people who keep asking whether you need a place to stay. That made it feel unsafe to me. The elevators are usually crowded, and getting onto the queue for one can take a long time, so reaching your floor is slow.

The price was reasonable for what you get, and I had a comfortable stay. Staff were very friendly and service was excellent. I enjoyed the view from my room and had a lot of fun. I prefer staying here when I visit Hong Kong because it’s close to the city center and shopping center. They should give guests a little keepsake without having to ask.

The location is very good, but the room is tiny, about 4 m². I waited around an hour to get in, and I don’t think I got the room I booked. I’d booked block A but was given a room in the reception block. It was smaller, but actually better because the elevators here are pretty awful. Each block has two elevators with a seven-person limit; one serves odd floors and the other even floors, and they only go in one direction at a time. Block A always had a queue, while block D had fewer people. This room is only suitable for a short stay, maybe two to four nights. I happened to be there around China’s National Day and got to watch the fireworks display!
