Strawberry Guest House

I booked four nights at Leisure Hostel through Agoda, but had to check in at this hostel. They said they hadn't received Agoda's payment and wouldn't let me stay. Hadn't they put the room listing up themselves? They ruined all my travel plans. This whole group of hostels is worth zero stars.

Be careful with pay on arrival bookings, especially through agoda, because they may not honor your reservation. Other people there when I arrived had the same problem. After multiple calls to agoda and hours trying to reach the front desk, I luckily got a room.

We arrived at Starwberry Hostel but ended up in a place called something like Kamal, in a different block and on another floor. Being moved around from block to block was really unsettling. In our room, the toilet didn't work, one bed was dirty, and the pillows were stained.

We'd booked and paid for the room in advance, but at check-in they said they wouldn't accept our Hostelworld reservation because Hostelworld takes a deposit. Even though we'd paid, they refused to let us stay or honor the price. Then they found some couple on the street, gave them our room, and charged them more than we'd paid. Before we were told they wouldn't honor the booking, they kept us waiting nearly 30 minutes while checking in that couple. The waiting room had no AC and felt like a sauna. The elevator only fit four people, and even then it said the weight limit was exceeded. It took almost 10 minutes to reach our floor. I'd emailed ahead asking for directions, but they didn't give useful ones, so we had to ask random people on the street. Hong Kong had felt very safe to me while traveling, but I felt unsafe trying to find the hostel and then waiting in the lobby. Worst hostel experience ever.
