The Ten Hotel

I stayed five nights on an emergency trip to Hong Kong, and the location was the main reason I chose it. It’s beside the Kowloon Tong subway line and the express train to Shenzhen. The subway also connects to Festival Walk, a huge mall with a grocery store, lots of restaurants, an ice rink and a movie theater. The beds are firm but comfortable, and you can choose from different pillows. It’s handy that the lights can be controlled from bed. The bathroom is very large, with both a shower and tub. The room is reasonably clean, and they change the towels, slippers and sheets daily, though I wish they wouldn’t do that so water could be saved. This is a bare-bones hotel with basic decor and few services. The Wi-Fi is free but spotty. When it works, streaming Netflix is fine; when it doesn’t, I have to call the front desk to reset it. Food options are very limited, and there’s no fridge or microwave in the room, though in Hong Kong I didn’t really need them. You need to be self-sufficient or speak Cantonese. There’s a 24-hour front desk, but communication can be difficult. It’s not a good fit if you like spending lots of time in your room or plan to eat there. The school-area streets are very quiet at night for a big city, with barely any cars and no people I could hear during my trip. The hotel used to be known as a place for meeting a mistress, a love hotel, but it seems to have changed somewhat. It was clean enough and very good value for the price and location, especially since I was out all day and only slept there.
