Yiu Fai Guest House

Ms. Lina welcomed us and was very accommodating. She understands and speaks Tagalog, which is a plus for Filipino travelers. Security felt solid, with watchmen beside the main entrance lift on the ground floor and CCTV throughout. The two lifts are small and can get cramped, as is typical in HK buildings, but one opens onto Nathan Road and the other onto Carnarvon Road. The location is very convenient, with a bank at street level, 7-11 stores, McDonald's and KFC nearby, and the MTR station, bus station, and Star Ferry Pier all within walking distance. I'd stay here again on our next visit.

It was packed when we stayed, but we didn't have any disturbances. The place is basic, though it has what you need to rest. You're close to all the action, the MTR, and several of the better money changers. One of the best places to stay.

The room was noisy because it faced Nathan Road, and the bathroom and toilet weren't separated, so everything got wet. The water was cold because the heater wasn't working, which made showering in cold weather miserable. The towel was practically a rag. Check-in was a waste of time. First you have to go to the 5th Floor reception, then back down to the ground floor and switch lifts because the two elevators serve different floors. I wasn't given the first card, and you need three: one for the first door into a hallway with three room doors, one for your actual room, and one to insert for power. I had to search the hallway for the right room, then go back down to the ground floor, take the lift to the 5th Floor to get the first card, return to the ground floor, and take the other lift to the 10th Floor.

It's a small place, but an okay guest house. I asked for a cold room and hot water, and got a really chilly room and a really hot shower. The location is strategic. It's on the 5th Floor, with just one small elevator connecting to the ground floor.
