Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong Nanpu by IHG

We liked the hotel. The rooms were comfy, and breakfast, lunch, and dinner were good. It’s a bit far from the center: walk 10 minutes to the metro, then take two lines to reach the best area. That takes 30 minutes, which isn’t too much.

After a long workday, I came back to a clean room, and the room service was great. The air conditioning kept the warmth outside from bothering us. Breakfast mixed Chinese, European, and Indian dishes, which I guess was because there were many Indian guests then. The hotel felt close to European standards. Staff spoke only a little English, but enough for basic communication. There weren’t any big shopping malls nearby.

The rooms are good and room service was good too. Breakfast had no vegetarian or vegan choices, and there was no travel desk information. The WiFi was basically unusable on my phone, just spinning with no signal.

The room got warm after the air conditioning stopped working on the second day of my five-night business stay. I reported it to reception twice, but they said the hotel uses a central system and they couldn’t do anything. Eventually they brought me a stand fan. I raised the issue through the IHG app and asked for it to be escalated to hotel management. Check whether Shanghai IHG Holiday Inn hotels provide air conditioning in their rooms before booking. This was a disappointing experience with IHG, and I expected better service. Even the Holiday Inn Express group seems to do better with its budget rooms. I wouldn’t recommend this IHG hotel.
