The location made it easy to explore Shanghai: the hotel is right on Nanjing Road, with shopping and places to eat all around, and The Bund is walkable from there. Our room at Radisson Collection Hotel, Hyland Shanghai (Shanghai Radisson Collection Hyland Hotel) was spacious, clean, and comfortable, especially the cozy beds. The staff were very friendly and helpful. After a strong storm, rain came through our window, but they handled it professionally and moved us to another room quickly, which we appreciated. Breakfast had plenty of variety and was good. We had a great stay and would happily come back and recommend the hotel.

I got a great price, and it was definitely worth it. This is a large hotel in a really convenient spot, right in the middle of the Nanjing district. I stayed in 2024, and my room was spacious and had all the facilities and amenities I needed. There was plenty of choice at the breakfast buffet, and I especially liked the pan-fried buns 🥟❤️.

I'd visited Shanghai before, and most of my four-night stay was pleasant. The staff were generally kind and helpful. But what happened on checkout morning left me with a very negative impression, and I hope the hotel takes it up as a service issue. I'd ordered food through Meituan. The app said it had been delivered to Level 1, but I couldn't find it, so I went to the concierge on Level 2. Mark told me he couldn't help and insisted I contact the delivery rider myself. As a foreign guest without a mainland China phone number, I couldn't do that. I felt brushed aside instead of helped. The front desk staff eventually found the food for me. It had actually been left on Level 2, and they resolved it quickly and professionally. I've worked in frontline service myself, and I don't think the concierge handled this appropriately. Guests ask for help because they need it. A more understanding, solution-focused response would have made a big difference, especially for guests facing language or communication barriers. I hope the hotel reviews what happened and gives staff further service training so future guests can count on a consistently high standard.

The location was a real plus: several popular sights are close enough to reach on foot, and there are a few halal restaurants nearby too. After checkout, guests can also leave luggage safely at reception while walking around or waiting for a flight. My room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was well kept, though there was no bidet. There was a small fridge, but I had to ask staff for an iron. The front desk team were professional, although some seemed less friendly to foreign guests. Housekeeping and room service were much warmer and always greeted people with a smile, which I appreciated. As a Muslim traveler, I found the food setup less accommodating. The breakfast buffet had a wide selection, but nothing was marked halal or non-halal, so it was hard to choose confidently. Hotels in places like Thailand often have a dedicated halal section and separate utensils. I understand that may seem unnecessary in countries where most people aren't Muslim, but even a small effort would make a real difference for Muslim guests and might attract more international Muslim travelers.

Breakfast was a mess. The restaurant felt too small for the hotel and short-staffed, so I spent ten minutes looking for a seat before sharing a table food-court style. Food and drinks weren't replenished promptly. At the egg station, the chef didn't seem to know how to make sunny-side up or over-easy eggs, and lots of yolks were broken. The hotel opens straight onto the main walking street, and my room had a clear view of the Oriental Pearl. Location was unbeatable. The executive room, though, was tiny, with an old-fashioned shower over the bathtub. Toiletries were sparse and unbranded, so I bought my own at Sephora. There was no sound insulation, and I could hear my neighbors talking in the corridor very clearly. Service was mediocre too. When I asked for a package to be brought to my room, I was told to find it myself. Packages were on an open rack on the ground floor. I searched for about 20 minutes and couldn't find mine, then was told some might be on Level 2 as well. The location feels five-star, but everything else was at best three-star.
