The staff are amazing! The front desk team in particular looks after you like you’re a kid.

The hotel is about 3 km from the nearest subway, which is a drawback, though the ride costs CNY15.00. Otherwise, the room, breakfast, and friendly service all deserve five stars for a Holiday Inn Express. Breakfast was decent and still well stocked at 10am, even though it was supposed to be closing. I’d read complaints about the breakfast and smoke in rooms, but neither matched what I found when I checked in yesterday. The hotel is smoke-free, though enforcing that in China can be difficult. When I told staff a guest had left durian shells by the lift, they removed them promptly.

Breakfast is served until 10:30 am, but when I got to the restaurant at 9:15 there was already no food. I waited half an hour and nothing was replenished. Staff kept telling me they were preparing it when I asked, but I left at 10 and still hadn’t seen any food added. There weren’t even drinks. The buffet breakfast was terrible.

The room was quiet only in theory, since the soundproofing wasn’t very good. The front desk staff were welcoming, though, and the air conditioning and hot water both worked perfectly. I always have the juice at breakfast.
