The location is hard to beat. Pingjiang Road is right outside, and the Humble Administrator’s Garden, Lion Grove Garden, and Suzhou Museum are nearby. There are lots of local snacks and restaurants around too. The crowds of tourists are the main downside. Breakfast is decent, but the house-made toppings are what I look forward to each morning. They taste very authentic. Pingjiangfu is my usual place to stay when I return to Suzhou from the US. I walked past this area and Pingjiang Road every day on my way to school as a child, so it means a lot to me. The hotel’s private garden, Banyuan, is more than 500 years old. It’s small, but a classic Suzhou garden. Sitting with tea and hearing the parrot say “hello” is enough to ease my homesickness. I don’t need to visit other gardens. The service has always been excellent. This time I mentioned I’d been away from Suzhou for 40 years, and Manager Tang at the front desk immediately upgraded my room and sent fruit to it. Staying here makes me genuinely happy. It feels like coming home.

Our tour company arranged this stay. The hotel was quiet and clean, near the old shopping street and right along the canal. It’s a picturesque area for a walk.

It was easy to get to, and the staff were really kind to us. The beds were comfortable, the temperature was just right, and it was pretty kid-friendly.
