We booked one night during Carnival, but when we got back to the hotel at night, they said our room wasn't available because of a technical problem with the key card system. They claimed they'd found out in the afternoon and had tried to contact us, but not by email or through the booking tool. The cancellation itself only happened at 10 pm. Only two rooms were affected, which made the story seem even stranger. We strongly believe the room could have been accessed without a key card, even with the power out. We only needed somewhere to sleep. The hotel had already confirmed we could leave our luggage in the morning, as we did, and arrive late since reception is staffed 24/7. At first, they offered no proper solution. After we insisted several times, the receptionist contacted two other hotels. We ended up in a place with a much lower standard, a dirty room, no window, and a poor rating. The whole explanation seemed questionable. The way they handled it was absolutely unprofessional, and we received no compensation. This is not how you treat guests.

I felt like I was homeless there. No hot water, quilt, shampoo, or hair dryer.

We wouldn't stay here again. Room 405 had bar and disco noise every night until early morning, and the shower water was scalding hot. The key card setup was really annoying too: they wouldn't give us a second card, so we had to hand ours in whenever we went out and wait for a new one each time we came back. The property has potential, but there are plenty of better options nearby.

The staff were very nice, and breakfast was decent. Heavy rain did cause water to leak through the floor into our room. I also couldn't connect an HDMI cable to the TV because the port was blocked.

During Carnival, the location is a real plus: it's near the main parade route and Estadio Romelio Martinez, where the music festival takes place. For the price, I'd recommend staying here then, as long as noise doesn't bother you too much because the walls are thin. It's a fairly new, clean budget hotel with a good breakfast and exceptionally attentive staff. The manager spoke English in Feb 2016, which was helpful too.
