Hotel San Pedro de Majagua

The ugly part was my dry, sunburnt legs, which look like pork scratchings. There’s no moisturizer in the bathrooms. The staff are nice, though they seem to run on island time. The rooms are lovely, and both breakfast and the hotel food were delicious. I didn’t realize there would be so many extra taxes and charges on the bill, since none were disclosed when I booked. There’s no coffee setup in the rooms either. Rubbish blows across the beach and grounds, and there didn’t seem to be much effort to clear it. On our morning walk past nearby hotels, they were already cleaning their grounds and beaches before most guests were up. The communal toilets also need more cleaning during the day, because the day trippers make them unpleasant.

Avoid this place. Room service took at least two hours, and the service was terrible. They demanded surprise taxes and “recession burden” fees that we hadn’t been told about, even though we had paid everything they required online. We weren’t allowed to leave the remote island until we paid. With no police or anyone else around to help, we paid just to get out.

The toilet stopped flushing after the first day, and the shower wouldn’t drain, so I had to wash in a pool of filth. On top of that, after we’d paid for the hotel, we were told about charges that weren’t mentioned anywhere on the website. They added $200 in tax to enter the island, plus resort fees they said were due to some “burden” and Covid. They wouldn’t let us leave until we paid those ridiculous fees. A terrible stay that ruined our Colombia trip. I wouldn’t recommend it.

We had a lovely stay. Edgard welcomed us so warmly and took care of everything we needed. The service was delightful, and the chefs deserve kudos because we ate so well. The place itself is magnificent, a real paradise.
