San Cipriano is beautiful, with a spring-fed lazy river that made the visit worthwhile. The local people are very nice, and it felt very safe. We also enjoyed El Pibes next door, where the prices were moderate and the service excellent. But Hotel Relief was expensive for both the room and food. Our air-conditioned room was under 200 sq ft, with a huge bunk bed taking up the middle, so there was hardly room to move, like a jail cell, LOL. There were piles of termite sand on the bed from the wooden boards on the top bunk, and huge bugs in the room. This is supposed to be the best hotel in Sans Cipriano.

The bed was quite comfortable, and the sheets and towels were clean, but I woke up with several mosquito bites because there were no mosquito nets. The room was damp and cleanliness could be better. There are barely any common areas, so when it rains you’re left staying in bed. I paid 90,000 COP per night for one person without breakfast, which seemed outrageous compared with hotels in other small towns around the country. Breakfast costs another 18,000 COP and comes with eggs any style, one fried arepa, some fruit, and one coffee. I stayed two nights in a small, very basic room with a fan. I don’t use AC because the noise bothers me and it dries my throat. There were no hooks for clothes, no chair, and almost no room for my suitcase, which had to go on the floor. The TV didn’t work well. There was just one light bulb on the wall opposite the bed, by the TV, and the switch was there too, which was extremely inconvenient. The bathroom was small and had only cold water, unless it rained heavily, when they turned off the water. Imagine trying to wash up in the rain. A small window with frosted glass and an aluminum frame barely opened, so there was little air or natural light. The room door was metal too.

The community is well organized, with plenty of places to stay and options for food, snacks, and handicrafts. People are friendly. San Cipriano in Buenaventura is a lovely place to rest, relax, and connect with nature. It’s a protected forest reserve managed by the CVC (Regional Autonomous Corporation of the Cauca Valley), with two rivers where you can swim in pools or float along on inner tubes.

Without a doubt, the best hotel in San Cipriano. The new building is especially good, with comfortable sleeping space for six and a lounge to relax in. They should be clearer about prices, since sometimes they inflate them.

The newest hotel.
