Hotel Yubarta

The views are nice, and the hotel has a restaurant and the basics you need for a night's sleep. Cleanliness could be better, especially on the floors. As a hotel, it's okay.

We had our best meals in Colombia so far at the hotel restaurant. The owners, James and Maria, are also the chefs, and we enjoyed meeting them. Dinner was fish with coconut rice and fried plantain. The fish was marinated in a herb and spice purée, then steamed instead of fried, and it was delicious. At lunch the next day, we had huge prawns cooked just right in a mildly spiced coconut sauce with crab. Hotel Yubarta was a great choice in a lot of ways. Our room was spacious and clean, and although the hotel sits along a row of bars and restaurants that can get noisy at night, they put us in a room facing away from the noise.

The marina and bus terminal are about a 10-minute walk away, so the location is very central. My room was on the sixth floor, and there was an elevator. It had two windows facing the sea and the park, plus a desk and comfortable chair, drawers where I could open my suitcase, air conditioning, TV, a small table and lamp, and a refrigerator. Breakfast was served in the restaurant, and they cleaned daily. The staff were friendly. The shower had no hot water, but with the temperature set the way it was, I didn't really need it. There were a few little flaws, like flickering lights, an unstable TV, and a stained toilet seat.
